About
The Treehouse
The
treehouse used in The Lost World is one of the most used sets in the
series. Filmed on a sound stage, the treehouse is built on two
different levels with many different rooms.
As
you can see from the picture to the right, the treehouse doesn't look
as glamourous on the outside as it does on the show!

The
Elevator
In
the series, the elevator is activated on a "pulley" system,
which works using water and it takes the characters up and down the
inside of the tree, allowing them to come and go from the treehouse
easily.
However,
since the series obviously isn't built inside a large tree in South
America, a clever props guy operates a fork lift truck which takes the
characters up and down when they need to enter and leave the treehouse.
Amazing what they can do with TV today!

The
Balcony
Standing
on the balcony, the 'special effects' on the show can make it seem as
though the characters really are standing inside a structure that was
built to balance in a tree over a hundred feet off the ground. However,
this little piece of trickery is all thanks to the clever people in the
art department on the show.
When
the characters are standing on the balcony, take a closer look at it.
What do you see? That's right - a backdrop! It's all just painted folks!
Makes you realise just what they're able to do with television these
days!

| THE
ROOMS |
|
|
Challenger's
Lab
This
is one of the most-used rooms in the treehouse as this is where
Professor George Edward Challenger comes up with all of his crazy
inventions and make-shift ideas for products that the gang don't already
have.
Challenger
has created everything in this laboratory from an electric fence to
protect the treehouse to a substitute for food!
This
is also my second favourite area of the treehouse.

The
Library
Most
of the time we see Ned and Marguerite in here. Summerlee, before he
departed the series, also used to hang around here alot as he used to
research his plants here.
Another
nice touch about this room is the balcony at the back of the room (see
the 'special effects' paragraph for more info on this) as it adds a
scenic touch to their little home. this is personally my favourite room
in the treehouse - wouldn't mind a room like this for myself!

The
Living Room
I
call this room the 'living room' as a) I'm British and that's what we
call 'em and b) it's where the gang can sit down, chill out and discuss
the days events (or heal those so frequently injured in the show)
There
is also a shower around this area somewhere - as noted in the episode
'The Elixir' where Marguerite and Roxton need to shower cos they are
kinda muddy. Anyway, this set has a very serene feel to it and reminds
me of Indiana Jones for some reason!
