Based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic novel "The Lost World", the series of the same name has been nothing less than a success throughout most of the world.

Soon to be celebrating its fourth series on the air, TLW is about a band of explorers who all ventured onto the Plateau in search of different things; treasures, a good story, the perfect discovery and a chance to hunt.

However, their trip goes anything but smooth. Funded by Marguerite Crux, a rich, selfish heiress, the travellers venture out in a hot-air balloon, only to crash land on the Plateau with nowhere to go and worst of all, no way home.

They are befriended by Veronica, an "untamed beauty" who lives in a tree house nearby. She was born on the plateau and has survived on her own since she was eleven years old. Every day seems to wind up a fight for survival with cannibals, half-men, half-dinosaur hybrids, man eating plant life, odd tribes, ghosts and of course the dinosaurs that live in the area. Now, all the explorer are looking for is a way out of... The Lost World.

Although the television show doesn't follow the book to its finest detail, The Lost World the series is an equally enjoyable experience with likeable characters, villains you love-to-hate and settings that show how lush and beautiful the void that is The Lost World that Arthur Conan Doyle created.

My thoughts on the show...

Usually, action/adventure series made by Australian/Canadian TV bore me (think Xena, Hercules, Cleopatra 2525, etc) and frankly they fail to hold my attention. However, The Lost World intrigued me. I've always been a fan of dinosaurs and jungles (don't ask, just blame Mr. Spielberg in 1993)

Anyway, the show generally revolves around a basic premise; gang gets captured by unknown hostile tribe and eventually escape or something similar. However, the show doesn't take itself too seriously, so this is passable and definitely watchable. The acting is decent and the accents are done pretty well (Rachel Blakely does a good American accent, I think)

My favourite character is Roxton. Not just because he's tall, dark, handsome, charming, athletic... ahem. Anyway, he's a good guy who follows his head until his heart takes over. He's also very admirable, and doesn't use his title as "lord" to get what he wants (as Marguerite normally does with her jewels)

Rachel Roxton's Ratings:

Acting: 8/10
Writing: 9/10
Characterization: 10/10
Locations: 10/10
Villains: 9/10
Storyline: 9/10
Special FX: 7/10

Overall Rating: 9/10

I guess you could say "nothing's perfect, but this is damn near close!"
